Battery energy storage cost falls to Rs 2.1/unit from Rs 10.18 in 2022-23: Power Min

Battery energy storage system (BESS) costs have plummeted to Rs 2.1 per unit from Rs 10.18 per unit, as reported to Parliament. The government is actively promoting affordability through Viability Gap Funding schemes and waivers on transmission charges. Additionally, a Production-Linked Incentive scheme aims to boost domestic manufacturing, reducing import dependency and future BESS costs.
