The Geographical Indication (GI) tag sought of nannari, a medicinal plant widely being cultivated in the Western Ghats areas of Kanniyakumari district, will give a distinct identity to its root, which has long been used to produce various by-products, says V. Raghu, one of the applicants. Recently, Mr. Raghu from Modhiramalai, S. Sarasan from Adakadu, both members of Tamil Nadu Malaivazh Makkal Sangam, along with Patent Information Centre of the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology (TNSCST), sought GI tag for the nannari cultivated in Kanniyakumari to promote the region’s unique natural treasure.
