The Maine CDC has confirmed three unrelated cases of active tuberculosis (TB) in the Greater Portland area, urging residents to be aware of symptoms like a persistent cough lasting more than three weeks. TB spreads only through “close, prolonged contact,” and can be treated with antibiotics or prevented by the BCG vaccine.
